Easter

On Saturday March 26th, we went to an Easter egg hunt in the community next to ours. Weather Boy had fun collecting eggs and was much better at it this year than last. We also enjoyed a pancake breakfast. They had booths with activities but we ended up skipping just about everything.

Hershey Kiss We enjoyed a nice spring day for Easter. As soon as Weather Boy woke up, I reminded him it was Easter. He opened the blinds in our bedroom to see if he saw any eggs in the back yard. The Easter Bunny didn’t leave any yet, but we were able to distract him later, and the Easter Bunny hopped right out there to deliver plastic eggs filed with Hershey Kisses.

Eggs! Weather Boy hunted for eggs after going through his basket, which was a plush Tonka Fire Truck. He also received a small Tonka motorcycle, a stuff frog with bunny slippers that plays a little electronic melody, a plastic iguana, a blue turtle ball, a ring pop that lights up, a small plastic car with big wheels, a Reese bunny, a Thomas the Tank Engine book for his Leap Pad, and a new party shirt.

In the past when we have gone to birthday parties or family gatherings, we have Weather Boy wear a Hawaiian inspired, button and collar shirt that we have named The Party Shirt. He looks very cute in it, but, the party shirt has seen better days. It’s getting a little small and stained, so the Easter Bunny brought Weather Boy a new shirt. Weather Boy has been enjoying going shirtless for no apparent reason. He seems to especially going shirtless after school when we play outside. Silly boy!

Anyway, Weather Boy didn’t want to put on the party shirt while we were getting dressed for Tia’s, so we let him go shirtless during the car ride. When we got there, I told him we had to put on his new Party Shirt. He wondered out loud why he had to put on his Party Shirt since there wasn’t going to be any dancing at Tia’s. Boy, did I laugh (in my head)! I told him that even though there wasn’t any dancing, it was still going to be a party. That answer seemed to satisfy him, and we proceeded to put on his shirt.

Julio’s is the best! We enjoyed seeing everyone, eating great food, and playing. It’s always kind of an random group on Easter, but it never dampens the fun. Cousin Jim said that Drewbie is the happiest child he has ever seen. I couldn’t agree more. But then Cousin Jim said he thought Tony’s Jacal was the best Mexican food, and he couldn’t be more wrong!

Drewbie's Ear Tubes

Mmmm!! Hola! We have had an adventurous week as only a traveling circus could have. Weather Boy spent the night at Grandma and Papa M’s house Monday night since Drewbie had to be at the hospital by 6:00 am on the 22nd for ear tubes. Weather Boy’s dad and I enjoyed being parents to just one child again. Ah, life was simpler then, but we would never trade in one of our guys for it! We went to our favorite Italian restaurant and heading to Costco to take care of our normal weekend errand during the week. It was a nice change to our normal routine.

Ear Tubes
We got up and raced to the hospital Tuesday morning. Drewbie woke up shortly after we got him out of bed and was content to look around. Boy, was the hospital organized! My anal retentive self appreciated the organization and swiftness of the whole process. We checked in a room that was designed just for the initial check in. After all the paperwork, we proceeded to the waiting room for the pre-op check in. I had to stay clear of Drewbie because every time he saw me, he was reminded of the milk truck and wanted to eat. Dad played with him in the little play area in the waiting room. There were about 5 other families, and we wondering what they were all there for. Drew was the youngest by far, which made me a little nervous.

Nurses are Saints! The pre-op nurses arrived, and we met with a sweet nurse. Drewbie changed into the hospital gown that had little cartoon tigers on it and a pair of socks. It was only then that I wished I had brought a camera. He looked so cute for some reason. Maybe it’s because I’m use to seeing people like my grandma in those types of gowns. Anyway, as the nurse discussed how the rest of our time there was going to go, I had to hide around the corner out of Drewbie’s site. I blew bubbles at the nurse’s request to keep Drewbie entertained and semi-happy. He was REALLY hungry at this point.

Is he done yet?! After getting all the details, we went back out to the waiting room, and were then quickly called into a private room where we met with the anesthesiologist. She noticed Drewbie’s hunger, and said that Dr. B was there, so they would get started before the scheduled time. They took him away, and I got a little more nervous. I ate a little food, and read a little bit of the paper, and before I knew it, he was done. He woke up really quick after they were done, and the nurse who came to got us told us that he immediately started trying to eat the nurse’s shoulder!

I fed him, and all the other kids were making it into the recovery area. There were a few who were really crying. I put on my mp3 player so I could drown out the noise and relax. I thought after he ate he would sleep, but he got up wondering where the party was at! Thankfully, the anesthetic didn’t make him cranky, which is something that we were warned would frequently happen. We went through the quick discharge procedures. The nurse said it wouldn’t be unusual if he threw up at least three times. That was something pleasant to look forward to! Anyway, we were in the car and leaving at 8:00 am.

Drewbie seem like his normal self. He fell asleep in the car on our way home from one errand. I got him into bed and he slept for a couple hours. We enjoyed a walk in the afternoon and some play time with our friends V & Elle. Drewbie went down for a nap for a couple more hours and got up in time to see Weather Boy and Dad come home. Thank God everything went so smoothly (and no throwing up!).

He had a little discharge from his ear over the next couple days, but the doctor said no big deal. Now we just have to keep water out of his ears and need to get fitted for ear plugs so that when he takes a bath or goes for a swim, we can keep the water out.

U2 tonight! I’ll post again about Easter, U2, and the alligator lizard I caught. Happy Monday!

The Weekend is Over!

Weather Boy's dad worked this weekend so Drewbie, Weather Boy, and I made the best of it. We had Weather Boy's glasses adjusted and spent the rest of the day around the house. Weather Boy played in the sporatic rain on Saturday in his trademark jacket and boots while Drewbie huddled down under an umbrella in his jogging stroller. Weather Boy had fun throwing stuff in the gutter and watching it surf its way down the drain.

Miracle!! Their was a miracle in our house that occured at 1:00 pm: Weather Boy AND Drewbie each took a three hour nap AT THE SAME TIME! I almost didn't know what to do with myself! I did a few chores and then enjoyed some good scrapbooking time. After The Miracle, we enjoyed some more time in the rain, and after a few moments, Weather Boy announced he was done. We went inside and goofed around and had Chineese food. Before we knew it, the day was done. Weather Boy's dad and I watched the movie Love Actually with Hugh Grant. Pretty good. Probably better to watch around Christmas time.

Easter Eggs On Sunday Weather Boy greated me with a leaking duty diaper so we had a morning bath. I hard boiled 36 eggs for dying some time before Easter. There were only three casualties. One I ate to make sure they were cooked through, one I craked before I put it in the pan and the other craked in the pan. Since it was starting to look like a good day, we put egg dying on hold and went to the zoo with Grandma and Papa M.

We enjoyed our typical round at the zoo. Weather Boy enjoyed putting leaves in the little river by the monkeys and Drewbie liked crawling around by them. We got home and we played a little in the back yard. Both guys went down for a nap at the same time for two hours. What a wonderful gift! I worked on getting a new mix of songs on my mp3 player. I've been listening to the same songs for well over a year.

Happy Birthday! We then cleaned up a bit and headed off to Buca for the L March Madness birthdays. We had good grub and then went to Grandma & Papa L's for desert. Weather Boy enjoyed his Cousin Edie, as always. Desert was good and so were the presents. The guys made it to bed without baths, but oh well.

Weather Boy at the Dentist

You better brush!! Weather Boy went to the dentist this morning after complaining that he didn't want to go (gotta love 3 year olds!). We reminded him of the Treasure Chest full of toys, and he perked up a bit. After dropping Drewbie off with Grandma and Papa M, we showed up early hoping to get in early. What was I thinking? When do you think an 8:30 appointment should start? Evidently at 8:40. Grrrr. We were on a tight schedule with Weather Boy's dad's appointments and getting Weather Boy to the Trik-a-Thon.

Headache, anyone?!Anyway, we were able to enjoy some of the amenities in the dentist's waiting room like the video games and blocks. Weather Boy was a champ, and this dentist is awesome! We passed on the X-RAYS this time due to the time crunch. Weather Boy just laid on the little table while the hygentist counted (cleaned) his teeth. This was a totally different experience than last year. No crying or scared moments this time. He picked out two Treasure Chest items from the hygentist - a whistle/bell combo pink necklace (I have a feeling we are going to regret that choice) and a little snake (just want Papa M loves!). He also picked out a tooth brush, and we were given a tooth brush for Drewbie.

Dr. Bukk wanna-beThe hygentist told us that the huge spaces in his teeth are good because there will be plenty of room for his permanent teeth when they come in. She continued that kids with perfectly straight teeth now will have confused ones later cause there won't be enough room for them all. Whew! And I had thought we were behind the eight ball and could sell his tooth layout to Dr. Bukk's!

We were off to the next room to see the dentist. He did a little scrapping and looking. Nothing major. Before we knew it, Heath was off to pick out another toy from another Treasure Chest, and Dad whisked him away to the Trik-a-thon. We'll go again in three months for a cleaning.

I'll post the results, Friday's forecasts, and March Madness picks tonight. Maybe I'll throw in a review of the Trik-a-thon if I'm up to it. Adios for now!

Weather Boy's forecast for Thursday, March 17, 2005

Bye Bye Bobbie! Weather Boy predicted that it would be sunny without rain. When asked if it would rain, he didn't reply. So, let's interpret that as a possibility of rain.

We went to our neighbor's birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese tonight. That's an experience I don't need to repeat anytime soon. Weather Boy was afraid of the knock off of the Country Bear Jamboree show. Drewbie loved every minute of it. He couldn't get enough of the sights, sounds, and kids EVERY WHERE. I couldn't have more different kids!

I don't know where Weather Boy's dad put the March Madness grid Weather Boy completed. I'll ask him tomorrow since he is now snoring on the couch, and post it tomorrow night.

Professional Forecasts for Thursday, March 17, 2005

Digging in The Volcano Whitney Southwick of NBC 7/39 forecasts: "Mostly cloudy in the morning, becoming partly cloudy. Patchy fog in the morning. Visibility one quarter mile or less at times in the morning. Highs 61 to 68. Light winds becoming southwest 15 mph in the afternoon."

Matt Baylow with Local 8 News forecasts: "Look for highs there today to be in the low- to mid-70s. But at the coastline, it's a different story. I don't think you'll see that upper-70 reading that you might have had yesterday. You're probably going to be pretty lucky to get out of the lower 70s by this afternoon."

Finally, James Q with 10 News forecasts: "Mostly cloudy in the morning, becoming partly cloudy. Patchy fog in the morning. Visibility one quarter mile or less at times in the morning. Highs 61 to 68. Light winds becoming southwest 15 mph in the afternoon."

Weather Boy and Drewbie ramblings

Weather Boy and Drewbie We are doing some yard improvements in the back yard. There is a big pile of dirt in the back we have nicknamed The Volcano. Weather Boy and his favorite (and only) brother, Drewbie, had a ball getting all dirty in the wet grass and dirt on Saturday.

We did our best keeping Drewbie away from The Volcano since he kept eating the dirt. We would put him on the Nightingale's side of the yard, and he would quickly be back to The Volcano, which is on top of the former spa. If I see a baby derby contest, I'm going to have to enter Drewbie given my competitive nature 'cause I know he'd blow the others away with the right motivation.

Heath had fun using the digger the U's gave him for Christmas. He was loading the truck Uncle John gave him two years ago with dirt and then dumping it. We could have been out there for hours (ok, maybe 45 minutes), but it was cold and Weather Boy's dad wanted to go to Paneras so we called it a day.

January and February were the months of ear infections and three new teeth for Drewbie. March is the month of one big, upper front tooth, clapping, a bad haircut and ear tubes. The tooth looks HUGE in his little mouth. Hopefully, it isn't as bad as it looks, like his haircut. Sweet Lori cut Drewbie's hair on Monday. She tried her best, but I would have like to have taken him to his first hair cut, since it is his first. Oh well, we'll get over it.

Drewbie enjoys clapping now, as you can see in the above picture. I love seeing his little developmental milestones. Finally, Drewbie goes in for tubes in his ears on March 22. I'm a little worried about the whole thing. I know that it's a pretty routine surgery and a lot of kids get them. I trust that the doctor will do a great job and that Drewbie will benefit from it. But this is MY son. Anyway, enough rambling for now. Lunch is over. Adios!

Back from the Brink, AGAIN, and March Madness!

March Madness? We're back, AGAIN! Weather Boy's Great Grandmonther was having some problems, but she seems a little more stable now. She's back at the nursing home, and we're not sure what the out come will be, but are hoping for whatever is best.

Anywho, I am going to give everyone a point since I'm not sure what the weather was like two weeks ago! Right now, it is so sunny and nice! I'll check with Weather Boy to see what his predictions are for tomorrow, which is the Trike-a-Thon at preschool. Weather Boy gets to take his bike (and helmet) to school and ride around the basketball court. Weather Boy's dad will probably get to go, but I can't (stupid auditors are here at work). I'll post pictures as soon as we download them. I will also post Bye-Bye Bobbie pictures (see previous post) at the same time.

Weather Boy made his predictions for the NCAA Basketball tournament, also known as March Madness by most, last night. The L side of the family has our own version of March Madness - Weather Boy's Dad, Grandma L, Cousin Maddie U., and Uncle John's birthdays are all in March. I will get his predictions posted tonight to see if Weather Boy's new name is going to be Stat Boy!

Weather Boy's forecast for Thursday, March 3, 2005

Weather Boy Checking the Mail at the Pigeon House Weather Boy said it is going to be cloudy, sunny, and rainy tomorrow. Wow, quite a mouthful.

Weather Boy had a great day at school with his best friend, Michael. Weather Boy said that when he is four, he is going to be part of Book Club. He is envious of the older kids' weekly assignment called Book Club. They read a book at home and then share it with the class the next day. Weather Boy's teacher, Genevil, said she might start incorporating the younger kiddos in Book Club. With Weather Boy's love of books, I think this will be something fun for him.

We received a new book from Scholastic today called "Smell Socks." For those of you familar with Weather Boy, the book is kinda appropriate.

Have a great day, no matter what the weather is!

Weather Boy's forecast for Wednesday, March 2, 2005

Weather Boy's Haircut Weather Boy said it was going to be cloudy but not rainy tomorrow. So, bring a light sweater with you tomorrow.

Weather Boy is still Bobbie free! We are so excited! He isn't asking for it now. He is enjoying his fire truck and rescuing everyone and everything. Dad "fixed" the tub tonight, so Heath and Drew were able to enjoy a bath together. Nothing much else happening in our casa besides healthy fun.

Professional Forecasts for Wednesday, March 2, 2005

Cloudy! Whitney Southwick of NBC 7/39 forecasts: "Partly cloudy. Highs 63 to 68. Light winds, becoming west 15 mph in the afternoon."

Matt Baylow of Local 8 News forecasts: "There are some small low pressure areas that are passing by to our north over the next 48 hours, and these will enhance the marine layer from time to time. The aforementioned systems passing by to the north are going to provide a few showers here and there over the next couple of days. Most of the showers or sprinkles will be in the North County, if at all - and even then, it's not likely to be measurable.

James of 10 News forecasts: "partly cloudy. Slight chance of showers in the morning. Highs 60 to 65. Light winds, becoming west 15 mph in the afternoon. Chance of measurable precipitation 20 percent. "

Results from March 1, 2005

Well, it was partly cloudy and partly sunny today. So I think everyone should get a half a point.
